Advancement in technology has led to modernization in all the fields. Security
industry is no exception! Biometrics is the buzz word in the security industry.
Gone are the days of conventional means of record keeping! Identity verification
is done with the help of a face recognition system. This technology can also
be integrated with Human Resource solutions to accomplish various tasks. A biometric
time attendance system is an example to this statement.

A typical biometric time attendance system comprises of a database. The database
contains facial details of all the enrolled users. Every user needs to enroll
into the system foremost. At this stage, their facial details get stored in
the database as templates. Next time onwards, that particular user will only
need to look before the camera. His identity will be recognized and attendance
will be marked for them. Detailed reports can be generated at regular duration
on the basis of each transaction made.

An ideal application may consist of various features and perform various functions.
Some of them include:

*The biometric
time attendance
should be able to process multiple faces simultaneously.
It should be able to detect and process faces in less than a second. Many faces
can be processed simultaneously which ultimately increases the speed of identification.

*A template size should be pretty less. The size of the template should be
in a few kilobytes. It will enable the database to store many templates which
eventually benefit clients with a large number of employees. It is the best
if the system provides unlimited storage capacity.

*The biometric time attendance should be able to detect live faces only. It
should not be cheatable with the help of a photograph. Reliability is hindered
because of this feature. Accuracy is affected this way. If the system is easily
cheatable by a photograph, it won’t serve its purpose.

*The biometric time attendance should be able to identify faces even if the

pose is slightly tilted or rotated. The application should have certain tolerance
to face postures.

*The biometric time attendance system should be able to store many templates
of the same face. It will help in reducing the False Reject Rate as it will
be able to recognize faces correctly even through different postures. Multiple
face samples help in maintaining accuracy.

*The biometric time attendance should be able to compare many faces per second.
It helps in faster identifications. If the system does not have this feature
integrated, it may get frustrating for the users.

These are some of the features that ought to be possessed by an ideal application.
Biometric time attendance is an advanced and hi-tech appliance. It is beneficial
to any firm with a large number of employees. Installing a quality application
may prove hassle-free, accurate, and cost efficient in the long run. It eliminates
the possibility of buddy punching. There are many advantages to using this device.
Its use is hence increasing every day. It will gradually replace the conventional
pen and paper based attendance registers from all over the world.
